Kids Review Fashion Week SS16

Kids review the craziest looks from Fashion Month Spring/Summer 2016

Now that Fashion Month has come to an end, I think we're all pretty tired of reading the same traditional reviews of each fashion week. So instead, Stylight invited a couple of cute kids to review the most ‘avant garde’ looks from the recent SS16 shows-- and let's just say: kids really do say the darndest things.

From the runways of New York, London and Milan, these kids gave their honest opinions on this season's 'high fashion.' They even reviewed Kanye’s infamous Yeezy Season 2 collection-- and it was hilarious.

Unfiltered, raw, and straight-up honest, check out what these little fashion critics have to say below...

Introducing Lin, Victoria, Jack, Finn, Noah, Lucy and little Elby. Whether they live for style or could care less about risking a fashion faux pas, these kids certainly had a thing or two to say about the Spring/Summer ‘16 collections... and it was hilarious.

New York City: where novelty meets audacity

NYC: this is where it all starts. Home to the first ever Fashion Week back in 1943 (originally known as “Press Week"), NYFW is always known as the most freshest and innovative of the four fashion weeks-- and this year was no different. Novelty met audacity not only on the runway, but right on the streets of Soho and Midtown as well.

VFiles kicks off the week on September 10th, showcasing the work of five designers: Namilia, Fengchen Wang, Kozaburo, David Ferreira and Moses Gauntlett Cheng; and it was Ferreira who pushed the boundaries of craziness with his fluffy, yellow Big-Bird creation that prompted some pretty memorable reactions from our kids, definitely far from some elegant maxi-dresses. The same goes for Namilia’s inflatable plastic dress that reminded them of pretty much everything from bubbles to an octopus.

Next up: Betsey Johnson. Her show marked the 50th anniversary of her career in the fashion industry. Happy fashion birthday, Betsey! The 73 year old, eccentric designer introduced a Barbie-like couture, with a fun colour palette - put aside your red short dress - and the kids absolutely loved it (you might have a new target audience there, Betsey)!

American designer, Jeremy Scott, took the reign again as king of mad fashion influenced by pop culture. The kids enjoyed the animated faced that adorned his jumpers, tops and skirts-- while trying to recreate those faces for the camera!

Kanye West surprised the fashion world when he announced that he would showcase his Yeezy Season 2 collection during NYFW on extremely short notice. Seemingly less surprising was Kim Kardashian showing up in her hubby's latest creations-- an all beige look with high waisted leggings, a skin-tight tank top and a long, army-inspired trench coat. You'll have to watch the video to see how our cute little adorably imaginiative kids reacted to that look. Imagine yourself wearing a Kim inspired look solely composed of brown-ish clothes for women, what reaction would the kids have?

London: ecclectically eccentric

Typically the shortest week of the industry Big Four, London Fashion Week never shies away from eccentricity. Londoners being the trendsetters of the most wildest styles, it was relatively easy to find some pretty outrageous looks in London!

Starting the week off with MM6 Maison Margiela, the collection referenced London’s former club scene. As noted by the children, plastic was very on trend in this show! Next up was legendary British designer Pam Hogg who showcased a collection heavily influenced by 80s rebellion and childhood dreams gone wrong. Her superhero jumpsuits and political statement dresses garnered unforgettable reactions from our mini fashion critics.

Shoe designer, Sophia Webster, is known for her playful, realistic designs and cult-like celeb following-- her presentation this season definitely didn’t disappoint. Wondering why mermaids modeling her shoes were on top of washing machines? Turns out this set-up was part of a conceptual idea: the mermaids washed their tails, hung them to dry and then spent a few hours of freedom in Sophia Webster's gorgeous shoes.

Milan: luxe fashion and lady bugs

Established in 1958, Milan Fashion Week is home to ultra, sexy glamour and luxe fashion powerhouses such as Prada, Versace, Pucci, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana. For Alessandro Michele’s much anticipated second collection for Gucci, he intensified the glam factor and threw in a dash of geek chic by emblazoning wide ties with bejeweled lady birds-- which sparked some hilarious commentary from the kids! A symbol of luck and playfulness, lady bugs seemed fitting with the colorful and dazzling SS16 show.
